selfsayswhat

yo, gotta post about some futuristic hiphop. gotta listen to this man, SelfSays, here's the link

you can download his album on the website, Something Out Of Nothing, here's the album cover too

it's good beats and good rhymes, nice basslines and drums, smooth flows, dig it

too many future hiphop beats these days sound like flying lotus or j dilla. this is neither, definitely its own sound, great instrumentals and synthy beats. also mastered really well and encoded at a quality rate. great sampling and looping

SelfSays

check out the myspace too, there's a good funny video on there, SelfSays myspace

this album is awesome

Jah Wobble and the Chinese Dub Orchestra

Chinese Dub

it's freaking good, lots of genres, east meets west, dubby, rockin, asian, it's really fun to listen to!

and i just learned that jah wobble is married to a zither player, which is pretty cool.

yah good music. weather=bad today. it was a fine day, just the weather was super nasty. oh yeah big story from yesterday. ill help you piece it together -- macklin and roy got free celtics tickets. they showed up at boston garden after paul pierce twittered that he was giving away tickets, if you read up on these links you'll get the idea. but yeah they were two of like 10 ppl or something to get tix to paul's private box.

and the suite number? i'll give you one guess...

534. haha, yup

very unimportant news

i am currently in the top ten of brackets on the bc interruption group. you can see me listed in this post.

my name is Bracketological Beats. wow, kinda surprised im sharing this, but hey, being in the top ten in anything is pretty good in my book, even if it's number 10 :)

yeah, had a good weekend, saw a buncha folks. watched an episode of deadwood. watched a ton of basketball. i absolutely loved watching it online, it worked so well.

thats about it for now, cya

coming right up

yo whats up. well i had a nice surprise today, as rena and jed were in town. what a nice surprise! we hung out and went to the miracle of science and had a couple laughs. im really looking forward to may!

well, i gotta get it off my chest that bc lost last night. yeah. rakim sanders played like two mins of the first half because of foul trouble, then josh southern got 4 fouls about 4 mins into the second half, and we got dominated.

oh well, terrific season. here are a couple photos to celebrate it. and with that i scale down my endless talking about bc basketball. it was fun for sure, but now future posts will be about other things! sweet

yeah. cold again here today, supposedly 50 degrees tmrw. not bad

this morning i had a scare. i got new ram for my computer. so i went to install it. i put the battery back in and go to start the computer up and all i get is loud beeping from the computer, no starting up.

i panicked, tried installing the old memory, same thing. i started driving to the apple store, called them up after getting the number from kate on air support, and set up an appt.

then i went home and reinstalled the ram, this time pressing the modules in firmly, and, thank god, it worked. so now my computer is fine. and i still went to the apple store and got a new power cord cause my old one was starting to fray. most excellent

oh yeah, you might have seen this article already, but im gonna post it anyway, too good to pass up. (thanks Matt!)

Obamas to Plant Vegetable Garden at White House

biggest takeaway quote -- "A White House carpenter, Charlie Brandts, who is a beekeeper, will tend two hives for honey."

lol. makes me want a garden.

last night we watched Box of Moonlight. it was a really good movie, fun! id recommend it for netflixing.

well im still watching basketball. ill try to get amped about blogging and do some more in detail reviews or link posting. later! happy spring!

aright!

hey, march madness is upon us. ive watched the games today, you can also watch them online too, which works pretty well. i have a couple brackets, theyre all ok to decent, but no perfect brackets yet. i shoulda picked lsu and maryland. oh well.

yo get this -- im in one bracket (eagle in atlanta) with 11 people. i am currently last with 5 our 7 picks correct. the other 10 people? they all have 7/7 picks right. incredible! some people know their basketball

celtics game last night was pretty awesome. celtics have been playing some tough basketball. gotta respect that.

yeah...weather's been a little strange around here. in the past week the days have either been cold, windy, overcast, warm, or rainy. a real new england mix of everything.

jeff is going to costa rica for a lil bit. lucky!

but im gonna try hanging out with a couple ppl, so thatll be cool. i hear rebecca is back in town, and im gonna hang out in my neighborhood a little cool.

currently watching miss st v washington. wash looks pretty strong. brock just took a big spill.

k, i hope your brackets are doing well. ill tty tmrw

yo

yo hows it going. first i wanna post this link to this fascinating nytimes article about jurors using the internet when theyre not supposed to

Mistrial by iPhone: Juries’ Web Research Upends Trials

wow can you believe it! i guess im not surprised. my favorite line: "I was curious." haha

well its nice and sunny today. the dashboard widget says its cold, but outside in the sun its not too bad. i got lunch with rob at shalimar, it was good, and this time i didnt overeat

so im busy doing research for brackets. as usual, im sure my bracket will end up doing pretty bad, but im gonna do like 3 or 4 or 5 different brackets, diversify ya know

well ive been keeping my bc writing to a minimum, but ive got some cool photos and some energetic writing that im just saving haha. in case you hadnt heard, bc plays usc this friday night in minneapolis. very much looking forward to watching it

aright, cya

hi

hi whats up. its been too long since i last posted, sorry for that, ill work on it. i just got back from seeing clynton and Omayga play at middle east upstairs. it was a lot of fun. clynton is really good and he was gettin wild, it was great.

thursday and friday i watched basketball all day. then i watched a bunch of basketball on saturday and sunday. it was pretty glorious.

today was pretty cool. i met a dartmouth friend who actually lives right next door, so that was pretty awesome. we grilled too, some good stuff, chicken and kielbasa and such, lil corn and peppers. the issue of gas vs charcoal was brought up. charcoal is better but...well ya know, the debate rages on

i finally watched slumdog millionaire last night. it was pretty good. but i was interested in thinking about it as an independent film vs a foreign language film. its like, hey, ive got a formula for success -- make an independent film in a foreign country and cast the citizens of that country in the leading roles, then (and this is the most important part) have them speak english, no matter what their actual language is.

k thats my lil rant haha. hmm what else is going on. ive been playing some basketball and trying to go to the gym and get in shape and stuff, so thats good. its still been kinda cold out, which is too bad, but at least theres been some sunshine.

k ill be bloggin more, night

oh yeah look at this image, i dont even think ive heard of 90 percent of these places

6 overtimes

did you see it? i tuned in in the middle of the 2nd overtime and then watched the rest. wow, what a game. 6 overtimes!

Thursday, March 12, 2009

hey

hey whats up. sorry for blowing this week off and not writing much. hmmm, let's see. celtics have lost a couple games, but also everybody on the team is injured.

everything's pretty good with me. it's still a lil chilly in boston, and there have been some cruddy weather days of rain or snow or overcastness, but spring is right around the corner.

the farmers almanac says that the northeast is going to be a little colder than average during the month of march, which is kinda weak. oh well.

i just watched this movie "the king of kong: a fistful of quarters". i recommend watching it, but...well i dont want to ruin anything or give anything away, so ill just leave it at that :)

also i watched this movie called "the graduates" (not the graduate). it was like cant hardly wait. it was really, really funny. i liked it.

yeah. there's this song called "It's Always Sunny In Boston" by Coralcola. i dont think ive listened to it all the way through yet, but i like the name of the song. i've considered broadcasting it a lil more. lets look at it by itself

It's Always Sunny In Boston

has a nice ring to it doesnt it? now we know it is usually overcast in boston or at least cloudy, and blue sky is something of a prized possession. so, to combat dreary days, lets just think to ourselves that, it's ALWAYS sunny in boston :)

yup. alright im gonna watch some basketball, ill talk to you soon

winchester hockey

this photo is from the annual dartmouth princeton hockey game, which i think is still always played at dartmouth. after dartmouth scores the first goal, everyone throws tennis balls at the princeton goalie and on to the ice. it lasts for like a minute. it's bonkers. you've never seen so many tennis balls.

in other news...

Winchester 2, Central Catholic 1 - The Sachems, who needed an overtime win in the play-in round to get to the final eight, advanced to the crossover round with a hard-earned victory yesterday at Tsongas Arena

"Hopefully next year when the rankings come out, the Middlesex League favorite will be at second or third, where it belongs," said coach John Messuri. "Instead of eighth, ninth, or 10th all the time."

The Sachems, runners-up in the Middlesex League and the last team on the board in the Super 8 tournament selection, have a chance to come full circle by playing Burlington, the league champion, in the semifinals.

Winchester scored just 1:59 in when Peter Troiano's top-of-the-slot shot trickled through. But Central Catholic was unfazed, responding less than two minutes later on Cameron Fisichelli's slap shot.

But the Sachems had the final say, thanks to Kevin Carson, as the senior forced one home off T.J. Hickey's backhand pass with 5:41 to go in the middle frame.

The Dude: Is this a... what day is this? -The Big Lebowski

haha. so it's daylight savings, but wait, what day is it? jk. it's sunday.

well, im glad i went to sleep an hour earlier than normal last night. it worked out really well, because daylight was saved, overnight! can you believe it?

big tings. yesterday was pretty cool. today should be pretty cool as well, as it looks like it's gonna be 58 degrees and sunny. woohoo!

yeahhhh. so yesterday i played basketball outside, which was fantastic. played some kid in 1 on 1. dunked a couple times. got a little more inspired to get back in shape. then kate and i went over to rob's house for dinner.

dinner was excellent. we grilled! yummmmmm, peppers and onions and seafood and local bread. fannnntastic.

clearly you can tell im also amped because boston college won their final regular season game of the 2008-2009 campaign, beating nc state on tyrese rice's senior day. rakim sanders hit a buzzer beater to put bc ahead by 1. what a game! i only had four heart attacks, which is three less than the last time bc played georgia tech, so that's an improvement.

also, there was a celtics game friday night. celtics crushed the cavs. hey cavs, why dont you try not wearing those throwback jerseys every game. they make you look silly. especially when you miss a dunk. (ohhhhhh!!!!11!!)

so yeah. today id like to go to a diner with paul, depending on if he gets back to me in time. diners rule. then theres a celtics magic game at 1, which i will watch.

yup. sunshine and sports. and theres a world baseball classic. it is during this event that i am reminded that chinese taipei is taiwan.

aright, cya. --d

hola

hey. hows it going. for like the billionth time this year (season), i went to allston sports depot last night to watch a bc game on espnu! surprise surprise! boy am i predictable. well, bc lost, but its ok. jeff told me not to get too worked up, so i wont. but yeah. too bad.

apparently if bc ends up as a 7 or 8 seed in the ncaa tournament then they would play the #1 seed in their division if they win the first game. will this happen??? who knows

yeah. so you know the new kanye album? clynton and i listened to it a while ago and we were like, "eh this is kinda lame." then a couple months later and now we really like it. pretty catchy stuff. its funny we dismissed it so early on

today i wanna get a couple things done. i wanna go to the verizon store and replace my phone. i think its been so long since ive gotten a new phone that theyll probably give me one or two for free. my current phone is super reliable, but its time to move on.

i also wanna go to the indian place for lunch in central sq that serves a buffet, shalimar. ive lived in central sq for a while now, and i havent even hit this up yet! so im really looking forward to that. gonna eat a couple plates of indian food and im gonna be very very happy.

celtics won last night in new jersey. game was pretty sweet. i watched it on tape after i got home. paul pierce hit the game winner. one thing tho -- this team is having way too many turnovers! we had freakin 19 turnovers last night!

now im all for pushing the ball hard up the floor, but with less than a quarter of the season left we really need to get less careless. its gonna be hard to win playoff games with 20 turnovers.

yeah. so my roommate and some friends went out last night. some of them claim i am responsible for them meeting each other. some dont (or do they?). who are we to believe? haha, im being silly.

i gotta watch some movies. i got some good ones. lemme see if i can recap some that i watched recently.

i watched defiance, pretty sweet movie. i watched bigger stronger faster, really really good documentary. oh yeah and i watched you dont mess with the zohan, which is also really good.

this photo is from inside the google boston or cambridge offices. haha, hell yeah.

k, im getting better at this writing thing! ttyl, d

Dr. Jim Yong Kim, Dartmouth's 17th President

“At some point, you have to decide whether you’re going to keep throwing your body at a problem, which is what I’ve always done,” he said. “You realize that one person can’t do that much. So what I want to do is train an army of leaders to engage with the problems of the world, who will believe the possibilities are limitless, that there’s nothing they can’t do. Being the president of an Ivy League university is an amazing opportunity.”
