"I never was satisfied with my social life in America. However, I had a wonderful social life in India, with plenty of friends and plenty of invitations to go out, usually more than I had time for...
...When you travel, you have to accept the unique limitations of each place and enjoy the unique pleasures of each place. Social life in India is rich, fulfilling, and easy; but materially, India is poor--there's too many people crammed into too little space, so not everyone can consume like Americans do. The activities of daily life are more difficult: eating, transportation, staying clean and healthy, etc. So, in India the senses often scream for satisfaction. If Indians are materially deprived, Americans are equally deprived (and equally unaware of it), though in a different way--they're socially deprived. It's useful to have nice, big houses, but there is a downside to them, because walls keep people apart. American toys like Blackberries, iphones, and ipods are also nice, but they bring people away from the social life around them."
